New York High School Students Will Get Firsthand Lesson in Fuel Cell Technology

SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn. (Oct. 13, 2005) – Along with their traditional studies,  East Rochester, N.Y., High School students will get firsthand instruction in state-of-the-art fuel cell technology beginning next year. New York State’s East Rochester School District chose UTC Power’s PureCell™ 200 to provide continuous electricity and heat for the high school as well as onsite backup power for the community’s emergency response program.  UTC Power, a company of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), is a leading fuel cell manufacturer.

Clean and energy-efficient, the PureCell™ 200 is a combined heat and power unit that produces 200kW of electricity and up to 925,000 Btu/hrs of heat. With the capacity to operate grid-connected or grid-independent, it transitions power instantaneously with no interruption in service. The system also meets the strictest emission standards and operates quietly on site.

This system is among 30 PureCell™ units installed across New York State, with a total of 745,430 operating hours accumulated to date.  Delivery of the East Rochester PureCell™ 200 is scheduled for March 2006.  UTC Power will service and maintain the power plant under a five-year contract.
