UTC Power Introduces Enhanced PureComfort™ Tri-generation System

SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn., May 23, 2006 – UTC Power, a United Technologies (NYSE: UTX) company, today introduced an enhanced PureComfort™ Tri-generation combined cooling, heating and power (CCHP) system capable of offering chilled and hot water simultaneously.

The PureComfort™ Tri-generation system consists of a double-effect absorption chiller/heater driven directly by exhaust from either a reciprocating engine or microturbine(s). The modular design allows customers to scale the system to meet their specific energy needs while increasing the reliability of their power supply and reducing their carbon footprint.

Because the prime movers are fueled with natural gas, they emit fewer smog-forming pollutants and greenhouse gases than a similar-size diesel-fired system.  This feature is particularly important for companies with voluntary or mandatory pollution reduction commitments.

The various model systems can achieve an overall energy utilization of up to 90 percent – far greater than the 33 percent typical of the electrical grid.  These systems will produce up to 360 kW of power while producing up to 198 refrigerated tons of cooling or 469 kW of heat – or combinations of cooling and heating.

The enhanced chiller also eliminates the requirement for seasonal changeover for heating and cooling. This permits the operator to avoid high-priced grid and thermal costs during peak periods.

According to John Fox, UTC Power product manager, “A remote monitoring feature also enables our service organization to monitor system performance around the clock, which means we can respond quickly and maximize uptime.”

Fox added the system can be sited indoors or outdoors, is quieter than competing technologies and is environmentally friendly with ultra-low emissions.
